Body Painting Rules

Theme:  Gothic Glamour   TIME ALLOWED – 2 hours

Our Bodypainting category looks to the Gothic Movement for inspiration and entrants will create a design that takes this to a glamorous level.  Judged once again by Jennie Roberts from Paintopia, we’re looking for exceptional work, either brush and sponge or airbrush, combined with costume, headpiece and innovative use of props.

Judges are looking for interpretation of theme, application, uses of adornment to enhance work and technique, as well as marking the design for the face and consideration for fellow competitors.  Disciplines allowed: airbrush, brush and sponge combined (you may use all or any these).  Stencils are permitted, but only for up to 25% of the overall design.  Nude painting is prohibited, and models must wear suitable protective underwear and professional standard nipple covers.

RULES

Students paint the upper body only and may costume the head and lower body to match their design.  At 2pm when your look is finished, you will take pictures and send them for judging – either by email to emma@warpaintextra.com or by WhatsApp to 07958 291741

Bridal Makeup Rules

Theme: Autumn Bride  TIME ALLOWED: 2 hours

This category is about creating a look for real women, not a professional model, and is judged on your ability to bring out the subject’s natural features, as well as application and technique.  Style them to perfection from top to toe.

You will be taking inspiration from shades and tones of autumn – designing a look that is synonymous with a classic bride and given a 2021 twist.  Remember that hair is as important as makeup for your bride, as is a look that can take them from daytime to evening.

Any age of model is permitted over the age of 16 in Real Beauty – and you can work on yourself, if you wish.  Create a flawless, age-appropriate look, selecting products that work for her skin tone, eye and face shape.  Application is key to produce a flawless finish.

You’ll be judged on your ability to bring out the potential of your subject, as well as your skills in application and technique.

RULES

At 2pm when your look is finished, you will take pictures and send them for judging – either by email to emma@warpaintextra.com or by WhatsApp to 07958 291741.

Character Make Up Rules

TIME ALLOWED – 2 hours  Theme: Hallowe’en

Entrants are required to design and make-up a character from a classic Hallowe’en movie.  A suitable costume must be sourced.

Background

Our Character category will be taking inspiration from classic Hallowe’en looks – from film, TV or theatre.  We accept character makeups of all shapes and sizes – prosthetics or out-of-the-kit creations.  Your design must be a physical makeup and the work of your own hands.  You can work on a model or on yourself, whichever you wish.

YOU CAN USE:

  • Prosthetic pieces such as nose, cheeks, etc.
  • Hand laid hair – beard, moustache, eyebrows
  • Full postiche – moustache or beard on a lace
  • Hair to be styled or wig applied
  • Makeup FX that come from the colour palette, not a piece
  • Wounds/bruises from the colour palette
  • Recent injuries
  • Illness

NOTES:  You’ll be judged on your interpretation of theme, design inspiration and attention to detail.   Wigs and hair are important, as well as the costume, but it’s down to your skill and creativity that will win the day here.

At 2pm when your look is finished, you will take pictures and send them for judging – either by email to emma@warpaintextra.com or by WhatsApp to 07958 291741

Creative Make Up Rules

Theme: Dia de los Muertos Sugar Skulls 2021  TIME ALLOWED – 2 hours

Celebrated in central and southern Mexico as well as much of the Catholic world, the Dia de los Muertos combines the Catholic holy day of All Saints with the local ancient belief of honouring deceased ancestors.  It is believed that the gates of heaven open at midnight and the spirits of the Angelitos reunite with their families for 24 hours.  Decorative skulls were made in sugar and covered in traditional patterns, along with the name of the loved one across the forehead.

Your design must be a physical makeup and the work of your own hands.  Do your research well and incorporate colour and strong images.  Work on yourself or a model, whichever you wish.

NOTES:  You’ll be judged on your interpretation of theme, design inspiration and attention to detail.  It’s your skill and creativity that will win the day here.

At 2pm when your look is finished, you will take pictures and send them for judging – either by email to emma@warpaintextra.com or by WhatsApp to 07958 291741.

Fashion Make Up Rules

Theme: Fashion Week Reinvented for 2021  TIME ALLOWED – 2 hours

For the last 18 months (and the past three fashion seasons), the concept of a traditional fashion week has not existed.  As a result of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the social restrictions that have come with it, designers have not been able to host catwalk shows in the way we once knew them, with many fashion houses turning to digital formats or hosting audience-free shows, with some even forgoing the concept altogether.

Take inspiration from Jeffrey Loverboy, Maison Margiela, Undercover and Marni.  Think Bold and Inventive; Mysterious, Beautiful and Sinister; Season of Renewal and Wildness.

Both male and female models are permitted, and you can work on yourself, if you wish.  Style your model to complete your look, with carefully sourced clothing and great looking hair to reflect your creation.  Your design must be a physical makeup and the work of your own hands.  Do your research well.
